It is especially important when the toy is new, until you see how it stands up to your dog's chewing. If your dog chews off pieces that he risks swallowing, it is safest to put the toy away.

When the dog chews on nylon toys, they become "fuzzy" at the edges, which is completely normal. The dog may ingest millimeter-sized slivers of the toy while chewing, and this is completely harmless.
